Time for a process post!!!
Ok bastards. This is related with the last one. As you know (if you read this blog) Im working in some editorial design for a 98 pages publication; also, I have chance to illustrate articles. In the first issue I dont had much time for this but I was working in two pieces: A pic for an article about music creation and the main cover (words about this in a future post… obvious). This post is a kind of visual guide to the process.

The main idea comes from Miguel himself and was great because he is a very creative guy, I made some minor changes like the blue guy in top (originally Mario Ruíz)

The left image is the final composition of 5 or 7 photos. The funny guys in photo are Miguel and Mario. The right image is the unfinished piece, graphite and ink over fabriano.

Final draw. Scan at 400 dpi, with some corrections in eyes, hands and some lines.

Close-up to see details. I luv her expression.

How I make textures?

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Theres a lot of ways to make textures: acrylics, watercolors, inks, gouche (all this over a lot of supports like bond, canvas, et al), photos of walls, concrete, etcetera; but this time I wish to show you a very easy and cheap way to make a texture for your illustrations…

1.- Basics: water, coffe, masking tape, blank paper (or other soft color) and…
2.- …spray bottle. First step: Mix the coffee with the water and spill it in the spray bottle. Read the rest of this entry »

Funny Games

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

This time I want to show the process work for the Funny Games contest. The film directed by Michael Haneke needed a jacket design for his Spanish release. After knowing the synopsis and rules, I brought several ideas on my head, so I hold a pencil and my sketchbook…

First, I thought about making a composition with the hi-res photos that they provided to us but it had been the easy way; so I choose an illustration (more compatible to which I make to eat). Before drawing the illustration I put myself to sketch schemes of the elements distribution (illustration, letters, logo) and then, I thought that it could draw the title typography based on my own writing, this photo show options that later would be render in Illustrator.
